Up, Up and Away

Seeing Louis' sea anemone the other day prompted me to go find this jelly fish from when Nicholas and I went to the Georgia Aquarium just before Christmas. I'm forever fascinated by how these creatures have their own phosphorescence, naturally!

The Georgia Aquarium opened here in Atlanta in November of 2005 and "is billed as the "world's largest aquarium" with more than 8 million US gallons (30,000 m³; 30,000,000 liters) of marine and fresh water, and more than 100,000 animals of 500 different species."

This pic seemed appropriate today since tomorrow Donica and I will be flying back to Hannover, Germany!

About the photo, is wonderful! The colors and the sharpness and the flowy effect of the tentacles, wich gets enhanced by the angle...

Very nice photo Ginnie, just be careful with saturation, there are halos appearing around the top part of the jellyfish and the tentacles. Composition is great, as is the overall effectiveness of the shot. Have a safe trip and at least we will be back almost in the same time zone again soon!! Warmest wishes, Neil.-x-

Ginnie: Okay, Herr Neil. I'll pay attention to your word to the wise re saturation. I don't see the halos but that doesn't mean they're not there. I did use the Noise Reduction software and wonder if some of that around the tentacles is related to that? Hmmm. Anyway, as always, I appreciate your comments. Thanks for your travel wishes.

Hey Ginnie! It's been a while....
Neil, must have like a 21" screen or something, because those halos are hardly visible to me. I like this, just that I actually think your crop could have been more judicious.

Brilliant colours and reflection in the tubes - what you refer to as phosphoresence (which ever way it is called in different countries). The halos referred to by Neil seem to me to be the result of sharpening - it shows where the tentacles cross on the left and some other places.

It does in my mind not deter a lot from a very nice pic. Travel safely you 2.

I agree with Loius here, it does not deter from a very nice shot. As was pointed out to me the other day details like that will not win any competitions but who cares with those colours and the fact it's shot through glass. Well done you and welcome back to Europe !

Oh Ginnie, I so adore jellyfish pictures

I've seen some by Neil Schneider recently, did you notice them?

I think the colours are absolutely glorious, the detail superb and as for haloes, sorry, I can't see anything of it on my screen.

And thanks for your travel wishes. We'll be leaving the house for the airport in approximately 5 hours. Last night it supposedly got down to 19°F/-7°C here in Atlanta, which is almost unheard of. Right now it's warmer than that in Hannover (45°F/7°C)!
