![]() We'd been keeping a good eye out for a decent sweeping shot of Ingleborough with a lone tree against some limestone pavement but we ran into trouble there for 2 reasons; Ingleborough itself never came into any sun at all and secondly we couldn't find a decent single tree, so we decided there must be some more around the shoulder to the south. Anyway on the way down you get a half decent view of Whernside on the opposite side of the valley and lo and behold, there was a single tree! A guy was setting up a big expensive film camera on a hefty tripod to get a shot of this tree and if I ever see anyone who looks like they know what they're doing then I like to try and get a similarly framed shot. I had a quick word with him and then dodged around him to get a couple of shots which will be nowhere near as sharp as his. Unfortunately at this time the flank of Whernside had gone into shadow but at least I know now where this tree is and we will return and actually unpack the tripod ;) For those of you new to this area, Ingleborough (which we had climbed that day) and Whernside are 2 of the famous Yorkshire 3 peaks, the third being Pen Y Ghent with it's regal profile of a sleeping lion. We've both spent a lot of time in these hills, walking and climbing them and mountain biking over them (although as there's no bridleway on Pen Y Ghent you have to dump the bike for the final climb). Plus the odd cave and a bit of soaring the old paraglider ;)) It's a great place to visit.
