Ellie: Yes, the sky is overexposed. My fault for not knowing the camera controls well enough and also for only taking the one picture.

Ellie: Thanks David. Yes, it is overexposed. It's entirely my fault and I only took the one picture of the bell. Hopefully this sort of thing won't happen again because I now know a little bit more about using my new camera.

A beautiful image...rich in colour, texture and sense of history. In this case I feel the over-exposure in the top of the picture serves to highlight the bell-arch, the tree and the many shades and textures of green. The picture says "come and visit this place".

Ellie: Ha, you make it seem as if it was overexposed on purpose, which it wasn't .. it was lack of experience. But, if it says 'come and visit me' then I'm happy enough because it's a wonderful, peaceful and calm place to visit.

This looks surprisilgly much like the Japanese moss garden we visited today. Funny how the appeal of moss on old structures appears to be universal. Nice work as always, Ellie!

Ellie: You're right, there's 'something' very appealing about moss and old stone. The Japanese however, have the arrangement down to a fine art.

Just my kind of place. I could sit there all day.

Ellie: I could have done too Mary. But, it was a family day out so I wasn't able to linger as much as I'd have liked to.

Oh, I love the angle on this bell from the perspective of its rope, Ellie. This makes for another Lovely Sunday meditation. I can hear bells ringing all over the world right this very minute. They are almost in our backyard in Hannover (but I'm in Atlanta).

I am so eager to see more of your pics from Portugal...with your new camera.

Ellie: Thanks Ginnie. To enter the monastery, which is quite high up in the hills but deep in woodland, you go up a steep path, then through a tiny gate that's almost hidden. On the right of the gate is this little bell, it did seem a good idea to ring it.
I really like the sound of church bells too, sadly their ringing is becoming restricted here ... because of noise nuisance!

With a bit of luck you'll see some more pics from our last visit soon, but I've got heaps of pictures already uploaded, from the other camera, that I would like to use first, although I may need to be a bit creative and combine them somehow, otherwise we'll still be seeing last autumn when this one comes around!

When I saw the thumbnail I thought how did she take a shot of a hobbit house ? That's what it looked like small. This is a wonderful shot exposure aside, the angle is almost perfect so very well done you.

I really like the play of light on moss wherever it appears - in woodlands or, as here, on ancient structures. The rope makes a good lead in line to take your eye up to the bell, too.
