Snowdrop

Snowdrop is the second of the Mersey Ferries fleet. The ferry was originaly named Woodchurch untill it's overhaul in 1999.

It is seen here acting as a tender to the Queen Elisabeth 2 on a visit to Liverpool. This will be a scene of the past when the new cruise liner terminal opens later this year.

Nicely shot Les and an unusual pic to see on SC. You been doing some cloning around the funnel on Lizzy?

Les Auld: Thanks Neil, no cloning, it may be a halo from a little too much sharpening though, I never noticed the SC sharpen option when I uploaded the picture, it does not look quite as bad on the original.

This is an interesting juxtaposition. My wife is trying to persuade me we should do the QE2's last trip next year for our 40th anniversary. It may be cheaper on the ferry.

Intrigues me why they change the names of the ferries when they refurb them. Is it to kid the punters they are getting a new boat?

Why is the ferry called a boat and the QE2 a ship?

Les Auld: Thanks Alistair, it is a scene that will probably not be seen again when the new cruise liner terminal is opened by the QE2 on her visit to Liverpool in September.

New names, new livery, new timetable, I think that in the 198s the comapny was not doing so well and after some investment decided to resurect some of the old names.

That's nice, I like the almost black and white too, very crisp.

I'm fascinated by the smoke stacks/funnels on the three vessels, all at different angles.

Les Auld: Appreciate the comment Ellie, had to do quite a bit of post processing on this as he original was very dull, not one of my best I think but I liked the idea of the ship, the ferry and the tugboat in the same image.
