Where does a 125 pound German Shepherd lay down? Well, it's not the answer you were ready to give :) Actually, Berlin and I had a lengthy discussion about him entering the living room and then to get him to lay down took about 20 minutes.

He was convinced it wasn't fitting for him to come into the living room and kept attempting to go to the door. Finally, John was able to make him understand that we really did want him to stay and after some thirty shots I captured this majestic pose.

Berlin will be eleven years old in January and is in failing health. He still possesses a strong desire to do all the things which used to be so easy for him, but he's gotten to the point where he's not even able to take a walk in the neighborhood because he gets out of breath.

However, while his physical strength is failing, his mind is still completely alert and he continues research. For instance, after I finally got this pose of him and was ready for him to go back outside, he had decided he liked the living room afterall and told me to work out the following problem and then he'd get up.

E=mc²I'm still trying to work that problem so I had to have John talk him into going back outside, but as he went he was reciting his favorite quote so I placed it below :)

You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat.
