Last year's holiday in Canada began on the 7th and ended on 25th October, so the final days of our stay coincided with preparations for Halloween. I was very surprised at what a big thing this is over there. Many gardens were filled with scary-looking figures of witches and so on, houses were decorated appropiately, and restaurants, pubs and even shops were decked out in Halloween themes and in many cases festooned with candles.
We spent our final night in Toronto, and stumbled by accident on a tiny little bar where we enjoyed the perfect end to a great holiday. Here too, Halloween decorations were everywhere, nowhere more so than on the shelves behind the bar which were lined with translucent nightlight holders, each decorated with a different 'scary' face. We admired these, and the barman wrapped one up for us and gave it to us as a parting giift. This is it, on the countertop in that little bar in all its illuminated glory. Ahhhhhh, sweet memories!
