My buddy and I used to cycle to this place in Yishun after finishing our late shifts at the 7-11. We whiled the night away with intellectually stimulating subjects like religion, politics and members of the opposite sex. Always awestrucked with the scene at dawn and being the naive city slickers that we are, we also declared that this lake is the most magical and most beautiful place ever.

That was 17 years ago. Of course now we know that the lake is actually a man-made reservoir. And the magical scene is... just plain dawn breaking. My friend has settled halfway around the world in Portland Oregon, blessed with lakes much grander and dawns more breathtaking than we'll ever see here.

I smiled, chuckled at the thought and pressed the shutter button.
