I’m the weekly pick at VFXY, a excellent photoblog aggregator!
This means I get to stay on top of the newly posted err.. posts for a week. They also had somebody write something about me:
“Robin Vandenabeele eschews commentary about himself on his “about me” page. He encourages us to look beyond the photographer and into the photography. His photography is worthy of that scrutiny. Adopting traditional methods of photographing with film and incorporating innovative cross-processing, Robin lends to his images an air of a time forgotten. It’s all here: longing, reminiscence, and memory.
I can’t help but think about Robin as I’m looking at his photographs. His vision is what gives us these insights into that quintessential need to understand our pasts. When a photographs transcends simple imagery and projects real emotions, it’s not just about the image; it’s about all of us.

Let me tell you that whenever anybody wrote anything about me, it was usually along the lines of “does not pay attention in class” or “should read his books at home instead of under his desk”. And now people use words like “quintessential, transcends, reminiscence, etc…”!
I should copy/paste this as my “ahem” artist statement don’t you think? Anyways, thanks to Dawn for the kind but heavy-laden words and to the VFXY-crew for this honor!
Cheers! Robin

I often get teased that I choose poly-syllabic words (<–see?) instead of simpler, more common words. However, I think that sometimes you need those more specific words to say what you mean. I meant what I wrote. Your insight is beautiful, and I was moved to write about it.
Congratulations, Robin.

Do not mistake me, Dawn. I was flattered by your text (how could I not be), I just like to walk on the funny, lighthearted side of life. As I said before, they were kind words..
