Isle of Flowers

Liverpool Street station, London.

There's been quite a debate in the UK recently, about the police clamping down on street photographers (It's a hot topic for Amateur Photographer magazine, the NUJ, and several photography blogs).

I've been taking shots for this photoblog for 14 months now and this is the first time I've been challenged by a police officer (or anyone else for that matter). To be fair he was quite friendly about it, just wanting to know what I was taking shots of and why; after he walked away I took this shot of him ;-)

Nice shot. Count yourself lucky; I reckon I get hassled about 25% of the time I'm out shooting. Usually private security operating on the basis of "your camera's too big", but occasionally the police have a go. The coppers are usually the more easily mollified, and haven't yet asked me to stop. The private security are invariably profoundly thick and live in la-la land with regard to the limits of the law and their own powers.

The fear and stupidity in this country is stifling.
