this is the other image i thought about using for macroday, but i ended up going with yesterday's. 4-30-08 -- I just found out this was featured on the aminus3 community page. Thanks to whoever decides that, I'm honored!
too much going on right now, so i haven't been able to catch up on everyone's blogs--and it's looking like it's only going to get worse. this is actually exciting for other aspects of my life but something has to give... i'll still be posting photos as i can, but since photoblogging is supposed to be my stress relief, not a source of stress (e.g. feeling bad when i'm unable to respond to comments or follow your work--not only because i so appreciate your having doing that for my work but also because i enjoy seeing and being inspired by yours), this will unfortunately have to be one of the things that 'gives.' again, danthro is not disappearing, just appearing less.
Comments, feedback, criticism, suggestions, etc. are always appreciated. Thanks! Image too large? Click the 'small' link in the bottom right corner for a smaller view.

I like this one. Creative and it's good you could see this.

Simply everday object turned into a beautiful piece of art...nicely done!

Oh, I love the simplicity of this photograph. It has a beautiful DOF - I really like the separation of the cornered tip contrasting with the dark background.

Simple but striking. The folded page, its texture, the cast shadow and the detail all make an excellent abstract. Top marks.

Excellent photo. I love books and hate seeing that cover bent:-( Greyscale is very good on this one.

I really like this whole composition! Well done!

simplicité, c'est très bien vu !

It could be the beginnings of a paper airplane.

EXCELLENT lighting and tonal range - the best of the day

@yiannis krikis: thank you!!
Very clever, well done

I'm diggin' this. It's so simple and yet seems elegant. Nicely done.

paper aeroplane :)
I like this one and yesterday's a lot for their use of shadow and light, edges and body, texture and bokeh. you're getting great control of DOF. is this something you can set or do you have to take *lots* of photos to get the shot you're after?
26 Apr 2008 10:18pm
@baobab: thanks. judging from people's reactions looks like i probably should have used this one for macroday rather than yesterday's--oh well. i do still have to take a bunch of photos to get what i'm after, but i've also gotten a little better at predicting what my camera will do. mostly, i set the camera to macro mode, frame the shot from the lcd screen, and then it has boxes in the middle showing what part of the picture it's going to use to get in focus, and then try not to hold it too close to the object in question 'cause then it'll all end up out of focus. this one i spent way too much time on, trying a million different angle and compositions and desperately trying to make the edge look bigger and thicker but i couldn't get it better than this. didn't help that i didn't have good lighting so it would get grainy if i enlarged it or cropped out stuff. after i got the image to this point i was so frustrated, i gave up and photographed yesterday's bottle cap. then i decided after all that work i might as well post this image too
Cool shot and focusing!

that's quite the art (managing DOF and focus areas with your camera).
I liked yesterday's shot a lot, just wasn't able to offer a coherent comment at the time. It 's a sophisticated shot with real flow, more distinct differences in textures, and I really like the shadow/light positive/negative of the perforated edge and its shadow. Today's shot is simpler, easier to immediately grasp. So it's easier to immediately comment on - and this reflects more on the audience and our usually brief attention spans than the artist :-)

This works nicely. I like best how the shot takes me to a cozy room in a quiet house.

Abstract and pure, like the different shapes of shadows
27 Apr 2008 5:41am
interesting shot.

Sort of elegant.

nice shot
27 Apr 2008 6:11pm
I love the minimalism.
27 Apr 2008 8:12pm
Thoughtful composition and would make a nice stock shot? It'd be neat to see what it looks like in color too!
28 Apr 2008 9:38pm
Love the simplicity of the composition. What a great idea. I like the processing and the graininess works...very well done!
28 Apr 2008 11:28pm
wow i like this streaks
29 Apr 2008 9:39am
Very good b&w. The grain is a nice 'addon', here. It makes the image stronger.

I guess you know that this one was featured on the community page?
30 Apr 2008 4:15pm
@Twelvebit: No way! I had no idea. I used to check the community page but i hadn't had time in a while. That's really cool! Thanks for telling me. ...and to think i almost didn't post the shot! the irony is of course that the day after i posted this someone gave me a low VFXY rating and, alas, my rank went down by a thousand blogs (out of 3700). but what do they know ;)
At this moment it's still in the spotlight with your no parking shot one of the featured images.

I like both of your edge pictures but I think I prefer todays, great work considering you're just using a p&s
