Lavoisier
My favorite painting from the Metropolitan Museum of Art shows Antoine-Laurent Lavoisier (1743–1794) along with his Wife Marie-Anne-Pierrette Paulze (1758–1836). Lavoisier, who is known as the father of modern chemistry, is famous for his discovery of oxygen. If it wasn't for him, we'd all suffocate.
