Knightshayes Court
We visited Knightshayes Court near Tiverton in Devon. A National Trust property. House is Victorian Gothic built for the Heathcote Amory family. The gardens are beautiful and although the weather was awful I hope you will get a flavour of what it was like. Well worth a visit

OK, so what did you do to this picture? It looks sort of rich and fluffy at the same time, I love it!
Bill Phillips: This is something I do a lot (some would say far too much). It is basically the Orton effect http://pcin.net/update/2006/11/01/the-orton-effect-digital-photography-tip-of-the-week/
It involves making a duplicate layer which is merged by screening, then that layer is duplicated and the second layer is blurred and merged by multiplying. It is an effect I like very much.
I recken he put this picture in the washing machine Ellie, on extra hot!
Bill Phillips: That would work too.

This is so beautiful it's almost like a fantasy. I would expect there are some fairies hiding out there somewhere!
Bill Phillips: Thanks Helen. They would have been very damp fairies! Actually this is a beautiful garden and I want to go there on a decent day and get lots of pictures of it.
Very atmospheric Bill, thanks for the explanation of the technique
works really well
Bill Phillips: My pleasure Russ. It's not to everybody's taste but I like the effect
Knightshayes is a beautiful place, isn't it? It was raining when we went there too! Not sure about the effect - but then you know my thoughts on fiddling! Perhaps we could see the original?
Ingrid
Bill Phillips: I have some others, perhaps I'll post one of them un-twiddled
Very nice shot Bill you twiddle well
Bill Phillips: Thanks vintage. I like this effect, but I probably use it too much
Fairy tale to me, I love the all kinds of flowers, love the Orton effect very much her.
Bill Phillips: You would love it here Astrid. The gardens are beautiful...even on a miserable wet day.
Beautiful dream shot Bill. I like the subtle colours. Great PP job!
Bill Phillips: Thanks Richard. Glad you like it.
I think you gave this environment drugs and that is what happened, Bill.
Bill Phillips: It was Devon so it's probably cider!
Only when I read your blurb did I thankfully realise that my eyes hadn't deterioated suddenly over night.richard
Bill Phillips: I think this picture is getting what they call mixed reviews
Blue bells are not showing much in this area yet Bill
They look lovely as does your shot
Bill Phillips: I've seen a few here, the westcountry always used to be a bit ahead. Glad you like the picture Tracy
well its worth the effort to get this Bill, wonderful image
Bill Phillips: Cheers Tim, pleased you like it.
Interesting effect on a pleasent spot Bill. I have printed off the technique from the link you gave and will find a suitable image to play with. Thanks.
Bill Phillips: Have fun with the Orton effect but don't use it on competition pictures
Now you are winding me up Bill ;o) Twiddle aside - we have friends in Stoke Cannon and have been to Knightshaze a couple of times. In fact it rained then too! Lots of good trees.
Bill Phillips: It rains a lot in Devon.

Bill Phillips: Well thanks very much Doc! You've made my day
This is lovely Bill. Has the quality of a greetings card and I do like the 'Shopping' you've done to it.
