This old railroad bridge is still being used. While I was taking pictures a teenage rode his bike over it and a couple of people walked over this bridge. Even though on the right side the beams are about 18 inches apart and you can fall through and end up in the river. Anyway, it's a fascinating old bridge with it's rusty steel beams and unique architecture.

You certainly tempt fate my friend. Exceptional capture. As I've said so many times before, I have it on good authority you can't go wrong with rust and there's plenty rust here:-) Amazing old structure. They use 'em till they collapse:-)
  • Sean // 2008-05-01 23:53:20

It's amazing to see this structure still in use. As usual, the lines and shadows have drawn me in. The detail of rust is excellent. Nicely done.
  • Michael Rawluk // 2008-05-02 00:27:18

That is a very cool shot. Excellent.
  • Tom Sheehan // 2008-05-02 01:59:50

John. What a find. Amazing image. You've captured this from such a perfect angle. It draws the viewer right down the tracks. Great color and a vintage structure. Good work as always. :)
  • Giorgio // 2008-05-02 03:54:13

Beautiful shot. I like composition and PP that emphasize old structure and detail of rust.
  • Nick // 2008-05-02 07:39:57

  • Babak // 2008-05-02 09:31:56

You make some nice HDR pictures. I'm also learning the techniques as well, but none are as good as yours.
  • AC // 2008-05-02 09:39:54

Another superb snap. Love the lines and the angles. The angle you chose also highlights the tunnel effect perfectly.
  • El Jefe // 2008-05-02 10:56:00

  • Oswegan // 2008-05-02 16:46:51

I love railroad bridges. Your composition makes it seem almost like a tunnel. In fact, now that I think about it, tunnel vision may be some sort of theme within some of your images. I really like the reds here and the textures. Well done.
  • daina // 2008-05-02 17:01:41

It is a very low angle – feels very unsafe, but an effective capture and processing. We have a railroad bridge where I live – can’t imagine ever trying to cross it.
  • vera // 2008-05-02 17:39:44

when iron lokks like mosaic! impressive!
  • Laurie // 2008-05-02 18:58:33

It is a great subject and you did a great job with it.
  • Meticulis.com // 2008-05-02 20:15:54

John - this is a fun one...lots of cool color to pull from. I remember growing up near a steel-girder bridge that crossed the Rock River...it had WOODEN planks for a driving surface! I remember driving over it once (and was a BIG bridge)...it closed when I was pretty young. But you can still walk or ride your bike over it today - very cool.
  • ReallyJapan // 2008-05-02 21:01:55

Great perspective, the pattern is amazing.. and post processing, as usual, at state of art
  • Jan Erik Moström // 2008-05-03 05:20:59

It's probably more beautiful now compared to how it looked like when it was built. I really like how you have made the red color stand out. The perspective also makes the photo interesting. Nice
  • Astrid // 2008-05-03 05:35:58

This reminds me at the time I lived in the USA, 1976, great memories, I love the iron structiure, love the perspective and the colours, thank you so much for that memory

  • danthro // 2008-05-03 21:11:35

awesome shot. love this kind of composition with the perspective and lines and patterns. i seem to like geometric stuff for some reason. anyway, very cool
  • Kevin from OrganicPIX.com // 2008-05-03 22:59:41

This is fascinating - not only that it is still in use, but also that people will use it to crossover the river.
I love the vantage point you composed the shot - it gives a feeling of going into infinity - which is what I would feel if I were trying to cross and a train came up behind me! ;-)
  • Still // 2008-05-04 02:21:21

Your images of perspectives are always excellent. This one is splendid at new!
