I love book sales ... I guess because I love books.
Bill Phillips: You'd have fun in my garage then as there are about 3500 books in there!
Every bit helps, believe me!
Bill Phillips: It certainly does Ginnie. This book sale has raised about £5000 since we started it in Jan 2006. So it has done well for us. We have a lot of regulars who buy books from us one month and give them back the next, so that we can sell them again!
Very nice shot Bill. A great job that you Lions are doing. My uncle used to be for many years the president of District 405 in the Indian Ocean (Madagascar).
Bill Phillips: Thanks Richard. I've been in Lions since we started the club in Droitwich in 1985. We are twinned with a club in Sri Lanka in Hikkaduwa. They were badly hit by the tsunami and we were able to raise money to help them through the Lions there.
Well done !!!
Bill Phillips: Thanks. Lions has been a lot of fun for me over the years. I have always said that we don't do anybody any harm and sometimes we are able to do them some good, and we have a lot of fun doing it!
WEll done with the photo and well done with the lions
Bill Phillips: Thanks vintage. It's been a lot of fun in Lions.
I take my hat off to you people who do charity work, bill.
Bill Phillips: It's a funny thing but I believe I have had more from being in Lions than I have given. I enjoy the book sale, I have made a lot of friends and met some remarkable people. Trouble is we are all getting older and it is difficult to attract younger members.
That's the trouble with being a book seller - there's always something new that takes your fancy. (I know, I am a bookseller!) This photo sums up book sales - whether they are the sellers or buyers. You just can't wait to have a look at the latest bargain. Good luck with future sales, well done for the past ones, and jolly good picture.
Bill Phillips: How true!! I have had to put some of my books into the book sale to make room for the ones I have bought!! I love it when we get given books and Angela and I sort them and see what we have got!
keep up the good work lions
Bill Phillips: Will do! Cheers Doc
Every little helps that's what Tesco say any way Bill
Nice shot
Bill Phillips: Indeed it does. We make a couple of hundred quid every month so that's the best part of £2500 for the year.
I could never sell books, cos I would be like your mate here all the time! Nice candid.
Bill Phillips: I don't have that problem cos I get to look at them beforehand!!
You knew That I'd like this Bill ... I might of strengthened the tones a tad. cheers richard
Bill Phillips: Thought you might. I agree it is a little flat...Goodness knows what the blackdog would do to it!
well done Bill, 5 grand is some effort m8 and nice conversion
Bill Phillips: It's become a nice little earner and my wife loves books and does an awful lot of the sorting. The funny thing is I think she suggested why didn't we try a booksale...and now we are nearly half way through our third year!
Yes, but, you can't sell them if you don't know what's inside!
Well done for making that much, a worthy cause.
Bill Phillips: Thanks Ellie. We have a lot of fun doing it though I'm sure the boxes of books are getting heavier...or am I just getting older
That could so be me Bill, books and me are never to be parted. Well done on your charitable works for those less fortunate.
Bill Phillips: Well if you decide to visit Droitwich, come on the first Saturday of the month between about 9 and 12 and you will find us outside the parish centre at St Andrew's church.
I think Blackdog might have made them look like something out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie! I agree with Richard that you could have strengthened the tones a little. Excuse my ignorance, but I don't actually know what the Lions do.
Ingrid
Bill Phillips: I agree with Richard too. Lions is the largest service organisation in the world. Founded in America in 1917, the first British club started after the war. There are now some 44000 clubs worldwide in 200 countries and the membership is about 1.3 million. We raise money and spend it to help individuals or groups, locally and further afield. Internationally Lions are often the first to respond to a disaster as money can quickly be moved form our international fund to a club locally who know what is needed and can ensure that that help gets to people. So in a way we are a bit like Rotary and round table, but there is no business connection. It doesn't matter who you are or what you do, as long as you are prepared to give a bit of time to do things like book sales, or maybe taking a family to a holiday organised by another club. We have a lot of fun and have made some good friends. I would hate to be thought of as a do-gooder!!
