First Fleet Monument, Botany Bay, Sydney (2)

Posted by Andrew Gould (Sydney, Australia) on 16 May 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

I took this yesterday afternoon (Friday 16th of May) at 5:17 pm.

There is another photograph in my portfolio of this monument to the first colonists of Sydney that you can see here: http://andrewgould.aminus3.com/image/2007-08-07.html

In this present photo, though, the qualiity of the light is very different. I was able to take this hand held, thanks to my Sigma 18-200mm optical stabilizer lens, at 1/10th of a second (as indicated in the EXIF information, above).

The little noise that was visible (mostly in the sky), has been further reduced in processing the original Raw file in Adobe Camera RAW in Photoshop CS3. Here, I raised both the colour noise and luminance noise controls just enough to minimise the noise. This does not seem to effect the sharpness of the image in a noticeable way. (Sharpened with Photoshop's Smart Sharpen before upload, in any case.)

Thanks for visiting my pages. I welcome all comments and any constructive criticism and make it a habit to always return the favour -- even though it may sometimes take me a few days to do so.
