The steel cantilever bridge was the tallest of its kind in the world when it was constructed in 1901.
The White Pass & Yukon Road railway was considered an impossible task but it was literally blasted through coastal mountains in only 26 months.
The $10 million project was the product of British financing, American engineering and Canadian contracting. Tens of thousands of men and 450 tons of explosives overcame harsh and challenging climate and geography to create "the railway built of gold."
The White Pass & Yukon Road climbs almost 3000 feet in just 20 miles and features steep grades of up to 3.9%, cliff-hanging turns of 16 degrees, two tunnels and numerous bridges and trestles.
Very mysterious photo, sounds like an awesome road to travel. Will Williams @ 22-05-2008 18:41:04
I don't see how they accomplished such a task. Your image is extraordinary. sherri @ 22-05-2008 20:48:12
Love the bridge and the fog, great composition. Can't believe this bridge was built in 1901, that's amazing. Great mood in this image. John Maslowski @ 25-05-2008 18:20:52

Wahou! Sublime! Le traitement apporte un côté à la fois étrange, nébuleux, ténébreux. J aime beaucoup cet aspect voilé. Félicitations! Valérie @ 30-05-2008 13:17:21
