Sibling Rivalry
This is a short series of images from the Michigan cottage over our July 4th holiday weekend.
My sister Ruth loves photography as much as I do, BUT... ...sadly, she has a Nikon (as do others that I know)! [Today I'm in Amsterdam.]

Love it
Ginnie:
See Nikon looks better from a Canon shot, right?
Ginnie: HA! I love it, Maria!
Great little photo-essay. Love your processing. And - I have a Nikon too!!!
Ginnie: OH yes, Marcie. The haves and the have-nots!!
Ahhh thats my baby D40's kinfolk hehehe - nice one Ginnie errr not sad but rather impressive I must say, that she has a NIKON...
Ginnie: Yes, Yinks. So fun, all these siblings.
Great capture of Ruth's Nikon
Ginnie: I just HAD to capture it, Sherri!
Ahhhhhhh, now we are talking, this is a view I can look at for ever, look at that body, that shape, the curves, look at the grace she wears that black belt, she might be a little overweight, but ohhh she lays so good in the hands, she is so easy to handle, she loves the things she does, never complanes where I take her, always enjoys her time with me.....erm...erm...ooops did I get carried away here a litle bit, excuse me...NO I AM NOT SORRY.....I was talking about the sister of this beautiful Nikon.....the Nikon D80, I have....and Ginnie knows I have......
Superb picture, love the composition, I think Ruth will enjoy this too...... ....and I love a good joke to start the day with.... See you in a few hours, tot straks
Ginnie: Nothing like a good joke to start the day, Astrid, for sure.
Hi Ginnie, i'm a Nikonion to .. and i love my cam ... but .. she makes only pictures like a canon ;-)) .. great mood on this capture .. well done!
Ginnie: When it comes down to it, Klaus, we all know they're...equal. HA! Did I say that???
Ouch! I can't say I know what it feels like to use a lesser brand but don't think on it too much, I like your images all the same
Nice mood and lighting captured here. I might have left the white towel out to keep the tones more even but thats it
Ginnie: I just have to rub it in ever so often, Stan!
Ha ha... that made me chuckle to start the day
Lovely shot, beautifully composed and I love the details in the sunglasses and blanket.
Ginnie: So glad I could give you a smile, Paul.
Excellent photograph, Ginnie. Lovely contrast between the camera and the blanket. (:o)
Ginnie: Thank you kindly, Roz.
je vois que nous utilisons le même!
Ginnie: Awww. Well I know there are a lot of you out there, O-P!
Bring back the pinhole camera ... let's take a vote !
richard
Ginnie: HA! I love it!
Een prachtige stilleven van nu! Yesterday I have visited the blog of your sister Ruth and was very impressed by her photo! Your talents must lie in the familiy! Wonderful Astrid's hommage to the beloved Nikon! But we don't forget the spectacles, how helpless we might be without them! Five eyes are needed to explore and to enjoy our world- beside the inner eyes we need too!
Ginnie: Oh yes, Philine. Our deceased brother was THE photographer...even taught photography. But neither Ruth nor I were into it back then, so we often comment now on how we are both carrying on his art form! It IS in the family, for sure. And I just had to rub it in...voor Astrid, too...about the rivalry of cameras. I couldn't help but take that enticing picture!
Nice contrast with the blanket almost the same colour as the Nikon name on the strap.
Ginnie: Yes, Aussie. I liked how that came out.
Lol at our musketeer friend!! As soon as I opened your post Astrid popped into my mind. Not that it takes much for me to think of my buddies.
This is a great composition and Ruth I am sure will be honoured with your post Ginnie. Well done mijn vriend. Have a good day, all for one and one for all
Ginnie: I know, Tracy. Sometimes we have to rub it in, don't we!
Hey Ginnie, I'm also a Nikon fan, and you also seem to be a closet fan
Ginnie: It's always fun to see the rivalry, Sesan.
You found the perfect model
Ginnie: Yes, I'm sure Ruth thinks so, Nigel.
So sad! Beautiful tone, I guess it was a nice time of day.
Ginnie: I know, Etomi. I'm over-wrought!
Nothing wrong with a Nikon
Ginnie: HA! It's what makes the world go 'round, Aksel.
Looks rather aloof, lounging back there on the mat on the grass.
Ginnie: I guess you could say that, Ray!
I love the idea of making a portrait using a person's possessions as it says a lot about them. And this says this lady has a lot of taste and good sense to use such a camera - why would anyone want to use anything else?!
Ingrid
Ginnie: HAHAHA! You certainly have your own POV, Ingrid!
Only a Canon can make a Nikon look this good. As only a Canon can!!
Ginnie: I really, really like that, Fotografa! Well said.
Great capture Ginnie. I am out of the competition here, I have no Canon, no Nikon, just a Pentax!
Ginnie: And you don't suffer at all, Richard, do you!
Great tones and light here, Ginnie. I feel your pain..lol.
Ginnie: HAHAHAHAHA! I love it.
our precious gear
Ginnie: HA! You're so right.
Well! What a great little wake-me-up! I'm drinking my coffee before 6am, lounging through a couple of blogs and emails, and wham! there I am sitting on my blanket, my fleece, my glasses, and my other self, such a beautiful self, my precious Nikon. Yes, dear Astrid, you are spot on, lays so good in the hands.
It was very enjoyable to read the comments back and forth between the poor Canon users and my Nikon friends. We can be civil, supportive and tolerant of the pluralisms in the world, starting with what we hold in our hands and the lens we look through. After all, it's what's in the frame that matters (as Philine beautifully put: 'inner eyes' Thank you, big sister! You made my day.
Ginnie: I can't tell you how fun this was to do, Ruth! It made MY day, too. I was sitting right next to your blanket and knew the shot had to be taken!!!
I forgot to tell you what a lovely photo this is.
It's a lovely photo, love the low saturation.
Ginnie: Ohhhh, thank you, Sweetie!
Only a Nikon would bring along it's sunglasses and a blanket
Ginnie: HA! You are so right, Kathryn.
Don't lets start a brand war Ginnie, regardless of make this is a great picture. Of course, you really need an Olympus to get ahead!!!
Ginnie: HAHAHA! There are already plenty of wars without starting another one, Brian. You're so right.
The equipment carefully placed on the blanket make interesting subjects. The gleam on the shutter release makes a good highlight.
Ginnie: I was delighted it came out like that, Don. Thanks.
Brought a smile well composed image Ginnie.
Ginnie: If we can't take a joke, right, Scotia?!
I thought that this was my Nikon at first, Ginnie, but it is a little different.
Ginnie: Hers is the D40, Chad, and yours is the D100, I see.
Nice one! I agree with Mroy - does look great from a Canon.
Ginnie: HA! Sure am having fun with the rivalry, Martie.
Hi, I'm new to your photos, but just had to say that I love my Nikon. Great photo, love the tones.
Ginnie: I am sure you love your Nikon as much as I love my Canon, Mary. I love it.
Ooo, sexy shots, Ginnie? Are you doing a spread for the Nikon equivalent of Playgirl? *wink*
I have a Nikon too, tho mine's a Coolpix 5700 and I love it as much as my Pentax. It's not what we have, as you should know, Ginnie, but how we use it, that counts!
Ginnie: HA! And of course you're right about all our accessories!!!
Hm, I recognize this. My brother is a Nikonian, I only use Canon (and Hasselblad, and Diana, and...). Not very practical in borrowing lenses...
Ginnie: Those camera companies would never think of us swapping lenses, Gina, for sure! So you have the rivalry in your own family, too. I love it.
WEll I hope she can take as good photographs as you do Ginnie
Ginnie: Sometimes better, Chris, truth be known!
Well, she'll get a REAL camera one of these days
Ginnie: HAHAHAHA! But when, I wonder, will she come to her senses?!
hehe nice composition
Ginnie: HA! Thanks, 10cre.
So you used a Canon to take a picture of a Nikon. What is the world coming to?? I very nearly bought a D300 yesterday, but managed to resist. But my resolve is crumbling...
Ginnie: Yes, Martin, exactly as you said! I'm not familiar with the D300. Hmmm. Will have to check it out. I'm guessing YOU don't need anything new to make YOU better!
Hé he Nicely done... Your images ans those of Ruth are beautiful... It's always a pleasure to visit your two blogs.
(I'm a Nikonist too)
Ginnie: HA! Well, I still like you, Still.
Hah! I'm joining those ranks this Winter, Ginnie. But I'm keeping my Canon. What can I say. I like both of them!
Lovely shot, very well composed.
Ginnie: Bottom line, we can't live with them and we can't live without them! Thanks, Kay.
I checked her blog and noticed she has some lovely shots even though it is a Nikon.
Ginnie: HAHAHAHA! Exactly, Michael.
Ahahahh! This is the rivalry of marks, truth? Ginnie!
Ginnie: It's fun to joke around like this, Jose Angel!
BOO! Of course a Nikon has to be shot with a Canon, its funny.
Ginnie: HA! It sure tickled me, Brian.
Beautiful lighting! Looks like it was shot in a studio..
Ginnie: You know how to make my day, Rian.
Excellent arrangement and still life. Bad choice of subject, how can you allow Ruth to make such a thoughtless investment?
Ginnie: HA! Separated by several states (or countries) and many years, I have little, if any control over my sister, Louis!!
Nikon is okay, but it's no Pentax... Where does the film go in this anyhow?
Ginnie: HA! No film in a dSLR, Erinn, which is the beauty of digital cameras these days, right?!
What's wrong with a Nikon Camera? I have a Nikon camera!
Ginnie: HA! NOTHING is wrong with a Nikon, Ada!!!! The best people I know have them.
I almost thought you got a new camera when I looked at the thumbnail Ginnie. I just love the way you have captured this. I have seen so many cameras but all I've managed to do is drool over them
Ginnie: HA! It was fun to "make fun" of my sister, Thomas.
