Rose mallow is an annual flower that is related to both hibiscus and hollyhock. It grows to more than 100 cm by the end of summer and branches vigorously to form a sturdy bush. The showy bright pink trumpet shaped flowers, borne in leaf axils, are 5 to 10 cm in diameter.
Rose mallow is native to the Mediterranean region, from Morocco, Portugal, Spain and Southern France to Turkey and the Levant. It is naturalized in other some other locations in Europe and on other continents, including the mid-west and south-east of the USA. In the British Isles it occurs as a casual in southern England.
