My name is Rafael Chan. I am from Suriname, South America, the fourth blogger from this continent for now (more will follow :) ). There is so much to be told about myself but I will keep it short. First I will let you know that I have many interests, maybe to much for the normal mind to handle. Photography is my main passion but Culinary arts, Martial Arts, Music (Lounge, Alternative) and philosophy are a great part of my life. These parts in my life contribute to the final outcome of my pictures. I started with Photography 4 years ago. The half of that period you can say that I’ve gone professional according to the standards and still learning the finer details of this fascinating art. My main interest goes to nature shots which I like to combine with glamour shots of different people. In my portfolio you will find a great range of varieties. Portrait shots, journalistic shoots, my love for nature and my country are all aspects you will find in my work as is stated earlier. If I can stimulate people to discover the unique beauty of Suriname I will use the opportunity to show that to the shutterchance community and in expositions that will follow in the near future. Till now I’ve had three official expositions, one in collaboration with a foundation that stimulates the art of photography and the most memorable one was at the national arts exhibition in 2005. Once I’ve made selections out of these series I will be sure to post them. A part of my inspirations I get from the impressionists of the 19 th century and the masters of the renaissance. The artists that give a great deal of motivation are also from Suriname and can be considered to be the greatest of the creative artists through out the Caribbean. Paul Woei (Painter, Sculptor), Roy Tjin (Well known Photographer) and Hijn Bijnen (Journalistic Photographer).
