My Birthday Present - Yell...
There was no way that I could have made the trip to Yellowstone without seeing the two "must-see" places in the park; Old Faithful and the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River.
Here is one of several images of the Lower Falls that I took over the course of two days, once in the late afternoon and one in the morning. This was an early morning image and I liked the lighting much better. I have to admit that photographing this set of falls would probably have been better suited in early morning while the canyon is still in shadow. The lighting really needs to be flat to eliminate so much shadow detail.
There is no way to describe the sensation of seeing a falls twice the height of Niagara as it tumbles into a brightly colored canyon. The sights and sounds are indescribable. It moved me and was the perfect gift for me on my birthday. Amazing is the word I would use.
Everyone should see this area of the country and get a glimpse of what life was like in the old west, before man showed up. I saw more animals running wild here than anywhere else I have ever been. I will be posting more images soon.
