Jezblog
Week of October 08, 2007

From first glance, it is obvious that Jez Coulson is a gifted photographer. The bright, attention-grabbing colors, the movement, and the overall appeal are the types of details that suck you in. More than just a gifted photographer sharing his skills, Jez tells a story and shares the impact of the photograph upon him with his audience. He gives details, tells the story, and makes the image that much more personal for the viewer. Seeing the photograph of a miner is one thing; hearing Jez's first-hand account of being down in a deep mine in South Africa, connecting us to the 3,000 buried miners, is quite another. Jez bridges the gap between viewing and feeling and takes us to that place where the image means so much more.

It is no wonder that Jez's photography is featured in magazines around the world. His ability to take a moment in time, especially moments that are often filled with deep emotion, and make them real, is a valuable skill. There is rarely enough attention paid to helping us see what is right before us. Jez makes sure to do just that: he opens our eyes to a deeper story.
