Kheoh Yee Wei, from Malaysia, proves that photography is not solely the product of high-end camera gear. Wielding a Sony DSC-W1, Kheoh shows us that the photographer's eye, sense of composition, lighting, and timing is what makes the perfect shot. Good photography, as he proves, also requires having a good relationship with the environment that you are shooting, whether it is people, buildings, landscapes, or still lifes.
Kheoh's kinship with his subjects is apparent in every shot. The people he photographs open up for him and gives something more to the lens. We, as his audience, can see, hear, feel, and touch their personalities in a way that is tangible and palpable. In a way this is exhilarating, but it can also be heartbreaking. It's always an emotional response and that is the real connection between us and Kheoh and his subjects.
