What I like about Mike Brown's photography is that it is intimate. When he writes about his love for his family, he follows it up by showing that deep affection in his photography. They are full of those intimate moments that make up the feeling of family: silly, clandestine, and whimsical. It is a powerful emotion to spread through a visual medium.
Mike's skill at photographing people extends beyond his family, though, and this is no small feat. Capturing the essence of another human takes skill and pure love of the subject, and that is evoked in Mike's photographs. His series on a local tattoo artist is outstanding. Many of us are content to capture a moment; Mike captures a lifetime within a moment.
