If mood is what you're hunting for, Richard Whitelock can certainly produce it. Shooting primarily in monotones, he is able to produce great environmental moods through lighting, tonality, and subject placement. It's as if everything fell into place and Richard wandered into the perfect moment. The key, though, is that it takes a skilled photographer to recognize those moments and to capture them as well as he does.
Richard makes me want to immerse myself in Oxford. The lighting is magical and the trees are reminiscent of Victorian literature, while the figures are imposing and yet endearing. I want to be there, silhouetting by that light, colored in the soft timeless tones of his photography.
