Many of us have taken photographs out of the windows of airplanes as we speed toward a destination. Few of us, however, are able to fly our own plane, a Cessna 172, low enough to capture the amazing details of landscape, people, buildings, and coastal lines that German Klaus Leidorf photographs.
Klaus, an aerial archaeologist, photographs in a way that many of us only dream about. Not only does he do this for a living, but he enjoys what he does and it is his personal photography that keeps him grounded. As he states in a PopPhoto.com article , "When I'm flying and see things from above, I don't care anymore about the small things. It gives me peace."
Shadows, light, size, and structure take on new meaning when seen from above. Everything is different -- but no less diminished -- because of the perspective. In fact, if anything, they are enhanced and become more relevant and more important.
